Shelly (Hyewon) Shin is a sophomore at Kamiak High School in Mukilteo, Washington.  She is originally from Seoul, South Korea, but she moved to the United States in 2004.  She lives with her mother, father, and brother Brian.  She likes tennis, horse riding, dolls, and animals of all types.  She is an up-and-coming artist and has won numerous awards, including the Best of Show award bestowed by Washington governor Christine Gregoire at the annual Korean-American Art and Cultural Association exhibition.  Her works have appeared on the cover of 02 magazine, on the It’s My Life teen poster for the Mukilteo/SnoIsles Library System, and in Jody Studdard’s novels Pee Wee: Pig Racer and The Arctic Flyer.  Shelly’s mixed-media piece, Dancing in the Volcano, received a National Scholastic Art & Writing Gold Award in 2006 and was shown at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington DC.
